One of the noteworthy sites in upper Limi Valley is the Ya Yip Phuk meditation cave complex, which is located between the villages of Til and Jang, on a side trail along the side of the mountain. This trail takes visitors to a series of rock meditation caves, partly carved and partly constructed, in the hillside along the trail. This site is said to have been founded sometime in the late 10th or early 11th century by the noted Buddhist translator Rinchen Zangpo, who helped spread Indian Buddhism into western Nepal and Tibet.
We were fortunate to have one of the local Humla residents from Nyin Valley on one of our trips, Rigzin Lama, wife of noted local figure Tshewang Lama. During our stop at the caves, Rigzin was kind enough to sing one of the local songs in Nepali while stopped there. We are currently looking into translations for this and other videos in Nepali, so that we can add English subtitles.
You can also see more photos of this cave complex in our Ya Yip Phuk photo gallery.
