The Sacred Landscapes website emerged as a part of the India China Institute’s research and work on the Sacred Himalaya Initiative, a three-year project funded by the Luce Foundation and focused on the historical and contemporary importance of Mount Kailash as a sacred landscape of western Tibet. As part of this research, a number of exploratory research trips were undertaken along historical pilgrimage and trade route in India, Nepal and Tibet. This project is an attempt to present some of that research through the lens of sacred landscapes.
